The 4C’s In Action

Over the course of the school year, we have talked quite a bit about the power of the 4C’s. In an effort to enhance innovative teaching and learning in our classrooms, we have taken on our C4 Learning Plan. The 4C’s include Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity, all of which are the components to academic and career success. We know that elementary and middle school is that time that kids should hone these valuable skills and why we look to provide our students with exposure to the 4C’s on a daily basis.

In our classrooms, our students have opportunities to work with others, both in the person and virtually through Twitter chats and video conferencing. I am amazed how many of our students have connected with authors, scientists, and other professionals through these means. Additionally, our students are solving big problems and are forced to think like scientists and historians in their science and social studies classes. Students express themselves in a variety of ways including public speaking, written language, and video creation. These are just a few of the classroom experiences that enhance students’ C4 skills.

When we think of the 4C’s, our mind naturally goes to classroom experiences. However, some of the best C4 experiences happen outside of the classroom. Our students have the good fortunate of playing on teams, participating in drama productions, and completing service projects. These out-of-the-classroom experiences provide our students with additional exposure to C4 Learning. The 4C’s are attributes that all successful leaders have mastered. Pleasantdale students are the future leaders of our community, and we have a responsibility to provide them with opportunities to enhance these important skills.
